Designed and made for one person
Bring a stone you already own, a photograph, or just an idea. We draw it, choose the metal and the stones together, and make it at the bench in the shop. Engagement rings are most of what we do this way.
A small jewellery studio in the heart of Stockbridge, run by Annie and Ariel Katorza, a husband and wife who design and make every piece themselves at the bench in the shop. We are happiest with a commission: a bespoke engagement ring, a wedding band shaped to fit the one beside it, or an old stone you no longer wear remade into something you will. Less is more, in silver, 18 carat gold and platinum.
The work we are proudest of rarely starts in the cabinet. It starts with a stone someone already owns, a sketch on the back of an envelope, or a ring that no longer fits the life. We draw it, choose the metal and the stones with you, and make it by hand. Most of our commissions are engagement rings, and most begin from the stone.
“You always need to be sparkling.” Annie, on why she still loves the bench after thirty years
Bring a stone you already own, a photograph, or just an idea. We draw it, choose the metal and the stones together, and make it at the bench in the shop. Engagement rings are most of what we do this way.
Wedding bands shaped to sit flush against the engagement ring beside them, with no gap. Solitaires and settings in 18 carat white or yellow gold and platinum. Signet rings in silver and gold.
The everyday pieces: hammered silver Loops, the Folded earrings, Nature pendants with a single diamond, pearls and opals. Pared back, organic, the same hand that makes the commissions.
An inherited ring two sizes too small, a brooch nobody puts on, a good stone in a drawer. We keep what matters and remake it into something worn every day, rather than leaving it in the box.
Two people make everything you see, at one bench behind the shop. Annie trained as a silversmith in Ayrshire; Ariel sits beside her. That is the whole studio, which is why a commission feels less like ordering and more like making something together.

Annie and Ariel met in Sydney in 1991, a Scot from Ayrshire and a traveller born in Tel Aviv, both a long way from home. They fell in love and went round the world together sourcing jewellery, and somewhere along the way decided they would rather make it themselves.
Annie went back to Ayrshire to study silversmithing for a year. Annie Smith opened in Edinburgh in 1995, and the Stockbridge shop on Raeburn Place followed in 2000. Thirty years on, the two of them still make everything by hand at the bench behind the counter.
A short note to start the conversation, with no obligation. The real work happens at the counter, once we can see the piece or the stone in person. Or just phone 0131 332 5749 and ask for Annie or Ariel.

We are on Raeburn Place, the main run through Stockbridge, a short walk down from the Sunday market on Saint Stephen Street and the Water of Leith. Buses along Raeburn Place stop more or less at the door.
OPENING HOURSOpen seven days. Sundays are busy with the Stockbridge crowd, so for a longer chat about a commission it is worth phoning ahead.
Yes. That is most of what we do. Bring an idea, a picture, or a stone you already have, and we draw it, agree the metal and the stones, and make it here at the bench. You see it before anything is set.
Yes. An inherited ring, a brooch you never wear, a single good stone in a drawer. We keep the stones that matter and remake them into a piece you will actually wear. Bring it in and we will talk through what is possible.
We do. We shape the new band to the engagement ring beside it so the two sit flush, with no gap between them. Bring the engagement ring in when you come.
Diamonds and coloured stones are hand-selected from suppliers in Hatton Garden in London for each commission, so a piece can start from the actual stone. We also work with freshwater pearls, opals and semi-precious stones.
Just come in. We are at 12 Raeburn Place, open seven days, and Sundays are busy with the Stockbridge crowd. For a longer chat about a commission it helps to call 0131 332 5749 first so one of us is free at the bench.
